'Fox & Friends' call Democratic Conventioners "pot smokers"
Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 11:54:16 AM PDT
FOX fully unfurls the Dirty F'n Hippie™ meme
"The implication here is that a lot of pot smokers are coming to town."
"To all of the Democrats who are going ..." began Fox host Steve Doocy. "And, this is also news to all the Republicans going to their convention in St. Paul. Don't take your pot. Don't take your pot to the DNC."
Convention Roll Call Redux - Denver Anyone?
Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 05:38:03 AM PDT
A couple of weeks ago I posted a Convention Roll Call and received several good responses (see comments at linked diary).
Side Note: am in the Deep South countryside right now, looking out the window with a field in front of me and a stand of young pines about 150 yards away. A red headed woodpecker's climbing the 40 foot pine that's just outside my window. I'm facing West and the sky's blue, but the moon hasn't set, yet.
Anyway, I will be there blogging for this wonderful site: Left in Alabama.
Romney, Pawlenty to sink GOP to new lows
Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 03:35:47 PM PDT
I have learned not to be disgusted by anything the Republican Party does nowadays because they explore new depths all the time. But an announcement today really takes the cake.
On the flip.
Denver Q&A - Your input is requested
Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 09:20:45 AM PDT
I am attending the Democratic Convention as a PA Delegate and also representing a newspaper locally where I live. In order to do my editorial duties while I am attending the activities, I am looking for your input on a set of questions to ask politicians and/or press.
Forget Summer Here Comes Denver
Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 02:12:10 PM PDT
It's been a long somewhat politically uneventful summer. Most polls have been stagnant or moving a little here and there. There have been flareups on issues that carry no water, Mcone gate, and some more pressing debates; energy, debt and what type of world we leave for our kids to inherit. With all the hubbub that's been happening lately, possibly much to do about nothing, I just wanted to start some conversation about the convention and the opportunities of next week.
Do you know what Dem Convention Insider’s do?
Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 07:37:05 AM PDT
This year, to find out where celebrities, political leaders, and the rest of the crowd of influence are going to be– a variety of sources exist. The best one out so far is Metrohikers- Unauthorized DNC Insider’s Guide. With over 400 events listed, it’s pretty much the definitive source for finding out where all the hot spots are during the convention.

Gitmo On The Platte: The Police State Lives In Denver
Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 12:55:37 PM PDT
cross-posted from The Dream Antilles
Just in case you thought that exercising your Constitutional Right to assemble in Denver, engage in non-violent protest and perhaps participate in civil disobedience at the Democratic National Convention was going to be easy and humane, the NY Times informs in an article entitled, "Grim Warehouse Set To Process Convention Arrests," that is not to be the case. The Government has set up a mini-Gitmo to handle pesky protesters who get arrested in Denver. And they're telling you about it now, so you'll reconsider your plans. And maybe stay home.
Join me across the razor wire.

Freedom Cages in Denver
Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 12:01:29 AM PDT
I understand that this is a less than fully developed diary at this point, and for the most part I am writing this stream of consciousness, but I was recently confronted with some startling imagery. Internment after the bump.
Rove : "El Paso, Here I Come on the Way to Denver!"
Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 11:05:47 AM PDT

Damn they arrested him again. I wish. Citizens arrest !!! Citizens arrest!!!
That's a picture of what I hope happens in Denver as I just read that Karl Rove wants to come to the DNC Convention and harass folks. Well I'm taking him to another fundraiser and that's why he's kicking and screaming. It's The Progressive Electorate's Two For Tuesdays. I know it's Thursday but hey.
[UPDATED] Holding pens and Tasers: Denver's Little GITMO ready to go!
Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 04:56:14 AM PDT
To alleviate the confusion of a few folks, the "DNC" here means the Convention, not Howard Dean's "DNC".
Titles from linked sources were reposted exactly.
The Democrats and the Po-lice are ready for terrorism protests in Denver.
City readies warehouse for mass DNC arrests
Some protesters arrested at the Democratic National Convention could be jailed in a city- owned warehouse, complete with metal cages and barbed wire, CBS4 News has learned.
Investigative reporter Rick Sallinger discovered the location and managed to get inside Tuesday for a look. The newly created lockup, in a warehouse northeast of Denver, contains dozens of metal cages made of chain-link fence material, topped by rolls of barbed wire.
Each of these fenced-in areas is about 15 feet by 15 feet, with a lock on the door.
A sign on the wall reads "Warning, electric stun devices used in this facility."
Land of the Free, ya know.

Wed in Denver theme: Securing America's Future. Is it a VP hint?
Mon Aug 11, 2008 at 05:35:01 PM PDT
From msnbc's First Read (http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/):
From NBC's Mark Murray and NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger
Monday, August 25 -- "One Nation"
Monday's headline prime-time speaker will be Michelle Obama.
Tuesday, August 26 - "Renewing America's Promise"
Sen. Hillary Clinton will be the headline prime-time speaker on Tuesday night.
Wednesday, August 27 -- "Securing America's Future"
The vice presidential acceptance speech
Thursday, August 28 - "Change You Can Believe In"
Obama's acceptance speech
Just asking: Should we read anything into Wednesday's theme about Obama's veep pick? Hmmmmm.... On a conference call announcing these themes, however, Democrats said that night would be a salute to veterans.
Can we infer from this that the VP selection will have a national security emphasis? Wes Clark's website is securingamerica.com ...
Thoughts? Speculation?
Youth Will be 16% of Participants at Convention
Mon Aug 11, 2008 at 11:05:44 AM PDT
Cross posted from Future Majority.
The DNC Youth Council just put out a press release announcing that young people will make up 16% of convention participants in Denver:
Washington, DC – Growing on the strong performance of young voters during the primaries, young people are set to make up just over 16% of all convention delegates, alternates, standing committee members and pages, at the end of the month in Denver, beating all previous records.
Based on information from the Office of the Secretary of the Democratic National Committee, there are scheduled to be 631 delegates aged 36 and under helping to select the Democratic Party presidential nominee. This record performance tops the 11% of youth delegates in 2004 and the 9% in 2000.
Bear in mind that youth is being defined here as 18 - 36, not the usual 18 - 30 we talk about. The DNC (and YDA) both use that metric as the definition of "youth" for the purposes of internal matters.
FINALLY starting my DK diary, and Denver
Sun Aug 10, 2008 at 11:58:32 AM PDT
It's about time. After several months of reading following a near instant addiction to this site in late 2007 as the Presidential Primary season was gearing up, I joined DailyKos in, as is sometimes/often the case, a fit of desire to speak out. The occasion was the media onslaught against Jeremiah Wright, and while much has changed since then, at the time it was to me a perfect opportunity to help publicly discuss liberal Christianity (aka the real kind, IMO).
But then there was that pesky waiting period to post. As would-be gun owner Homer Simpson put it, "Five days?! But I'm angry now!" What with real life demands, and a no-Intertubes-at-work job, I missed my internal window to enthusastically pound key regarding one of my more personally significant topics.
Garden Blogging Garden Party: DNC Version
Sat Aug 09, 2008 at 06:00:37 AM PDT
Good morning my lovelies! As monkeybiz is guest-hosting Saturday Morning Garden Blogging this fine morning, I'm going to take this opportunity to spread the word about the
SquareState/Garden Blogging Open House
I've opened the doors of Casa de Frankenoid for several parties over the last couple of years, but I have to tell you: I'm looking forward to this one more than any other.
This is not a fundraiser for anything, or anyone. There is no agenda; there are no "scheduled events".
Our only purpose is to welcome you to Denver; share food and drink; and have the opportunity to meet outside the confines of "official" events.
