Just passed 200! O2B Jon Powers Only 30 Away!

Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 02:54:29 PM PDT

BREAKING - Just Reached 200 Individual Contributions!

American hero and fellow Orange to Blue candidate Jon Powers is only 32 contributions away. Please help him to cross the finish line. We believe in Better Democrats across the country!

Then feel free to come back and contribute to Annette one more time as we get closer to our filing deadline!

This cycle, Bush-Rubberstamp Republicans are trying to distance themselves from the failed policies of the Administration. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, however, Annette Taddeo's opponent in the race to represent Florida-18 (Miami Beach, downtown Miami, and the Florida Keys), has a special connection to the Bush family. She's been Bush-approved since 1989.

Breaking: Dem FL State Rep Makes Homophobic Comments

Mon Aug 04, 2008 at 09:28:42 PM PDT

Florida State Representative Darryl Rouson has been caught making homophobic comments in a video posted on YouTube.  He represents a gerrymandered district with a 3.5 to 1 Democratic voter registration advantage and switched from Republican to Democrat just to run for a seat in a recent special election.

His opponent in the August 26th primary is the second-place finisher in the special election, Rev. Charles McKenzie.  (The third-place finisher who received 26% of the vote has endorsed McKenzie.)  Although many black ministers are not progressive on gay issues, McKenzie has been endorsed by the Pinellas Stonewall Democrats and Equality Florida PAC.  You can view his web site at http://www.mckenzie2008.com and his online contribution link is http://www.mckenzie2008.com/...

Bush's War On Terror...

Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 06:45:39 PM PDT

...doesn't include certain terrorists. Consider yourself lucky you weren't one of the 73 passengers on the plane that was bombed by a right-wing terrorist the Bush family has coddled and granted asylum. This particular terrorist, in fact, became "the cornerstone of the campaign by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen for her run for the U.S. Congress. The campaign became Free Orlando Bosch. Her campaign manager was a young, ambitious politician named Jeb Bush." Take a look at the clip below the fold:

Let's Keep IMPEACHMENT on the Table!

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 04:24:24 AM PDT

Let's IMPEACH them, NOW! I pray this to honor every Iraqi child who was blown into redness for absolutely nothing -- other than happening to be born on oil-soaked sand -- in order to satisfy a bunch of chicken-hawk draft-dodgers who are currently running our nation using this bizarre, filthy, far-out Neocon "quasi-fascist" Middle-Eastern colonization attempt, just to help their buddies at Exxon and Haliburton. I really hope there is a fair judging for heaven and hell because that's where the Bush war criminals are going!

McCain's Private Dinner with Carlos Slim, World's Richest Man

Sun Jul 06, 2008 at 07:48:40 AM PDT

Today I am leaving my usual sort of diary to enter into the world of tin-foil-hattery.  I am a scientist by training.  When I do write a diary, it is filled with citations and usually too long.  I qualify my speculations and express my opinions as such.

Yesterday I posted such a diary on John McCain's wisit to the countries providing us our drugs,  Mexico and Colombia.  I discovered the many connections between those governments and their elected leaders and the funding of the "war on Drugs", now turned into a War on Illegal Armed Groups (IAGs).  While doing so, I came across the oddest factoid.  On July 2, while visiting Mexico on his July 4th Senate break, John McCain had a private dinner with Carlos Slim, by some accounts the world's richest man. link  This was only reported in the Miami Herald, whhich has a sister paper in Mexico City which covered McCain's visit with more attention to details.

Jeb Bush’s involvement in government sponsorship for religious schools in Florida

Mon Jun 23, 2008 at 09:42:56 PM PDT

There is a disturbing entry on Alternet that describes actions taken by former Governor Jeb Bush and his cronies to get government funds used for religious schools.  According to the entry, this current scheme “has provoked a church-state showdown with national ramifications.”   The worst possible consequence of the actions being undertaken is the possibility of removing  separation of church and state from the Florida Constitution.

McCain is frustrated with VP process

Mon Jun 23, 2008 at 08:04:45 PM PDT

This is pure gossip, as Joe Klein points out, but it's fun nonetheless (or perhaps, therefore).

It's not smart to underestimate the enemy

Fri Jun 20, 2008 at 11:09:43 AM PDT

While I don't subscribe to the characterization of political candidates as opponents or contestants, like gladiators in the Roman arena, there's little question that many of the promoters and financial supporters of candidates are basically antagonistic to the interests of the general public the candidates are proposing to serve.

So, as a progressive Democrat, I'm not at all reluctant to consider the Republican proponents of authoritarian, patriarchal dictatorship as my enemies.  Moreover, since a significant number of the American people have awakened to the fact that, instead of having their modest expectations and patriotic values honored, the people they elected to represent and serve them have engaged in the grossest deceptions and dishonored the country, it's clear that there's a small class of people who now have a lot to lose.  It would be a mistake to think they will give up power easily.

George thinks Jeb would make a keen VP for McCain

Tue Jun 17, 2008 at 10:07:09 AM PDT

If there ever was a single piece of evidence that would lead one to believe a McCain presidency would be a third term (or fourth if we include Papa Bush) for the Bush clan, then its having or wanting Jeb Bush be the Republican Vice Presidential nominee.

Remember Moving Water Industries, Jeb Bush’s old partner that got the exclusive contract to sell pumps for the flood control at the 17th St. Canal in New Orleans?

Come on, you remember.  The defective pumps that were installed without testing?  The pumps that were bought on a bid tailored exclusively for Moving Water, shutting out all other competitors, according to the Corps of Engineers own people?  Those pumps?  That deal?

The Future of the Bush Political Dynasty

Sat May 31, 2008 at 01:41:01 PM PDT

By Jwilkes from Eyes on Obama:

Love them or hate them, the Bushes are one of the most significant political families in American history, enduring for close to a century at the highest levels of government. Don't be fooled into thinking that relative unpopularity for one of its own today will spell the end of the family line. A look at what- and who- is to come for the Bushes.

AugustWest85's nominees for VP...

Wed May 14, 2008 at 09:55:29 AM PDT

..in the '08 Presidential election were chosen by a panel of politically minded neurons inside of Mr. West85's brain. After careful sorting, they are then tabulated by a select group of top accounting minded neurons located in a completely different section of Mr. West85's brain, with each process being protected by the most protective, some might say paranoid, minded neurons, which are positioned en masse throughout the cramped, dark and horribly tasting confines of Mr. West85's cranial cavity.

Rail Road Job in Tallahassee - Forces of Ego Fight Commuter Rail

Mon Mar 17, 2008 at 10:51:48 AM PDT

It's the middle of March here in Florida. That means three things are going on: Spring Break, Spring Training Baseball and the Florida Legislature is in session. Spring Training Baseball has a long and honored tradition here. Spring Break, with all its warts, also has been responsible for a lifetime of fond feelings for Florida from people all over the country. Regular sessions of the Florida Legislature, on the other hand, usually make us glad they only meet for 60 days a year. As the old saw goes, when the legislature is in session, make sure you've got your hand on your wallet.

So what battle is going on this year in the Florida Legislature that has almost all the elements necessary to make a good sequel to Sunshine State?  Follow me below the fold...

Never Again.

Sat Feb 23, 2008 at 07:12:11 AM PDT

The "Presidency" of George W. Bush is grinding to an excruciating, long-awaited and long-overdue halt; with luck and perserverence, we'll still find a way to get impeachment and accountability back on the table to ensure that none of the blaggards, thieves and liars who voluminously infest the framework around this "Administration" can ever return to government. The Ford, Bush I and even Clinton Administrations pardoned previous incarnations of the same under the misbegotten claim of "moving forward" -- we now face the same individuals, working together in a concentrated concoction of the nefarious and ne'er-do-well, as a result.

But this isn't even about them. It's much more focused.

This is about the first hints that George W. Bush's most important legacy -- the one we may actually thank him for, even if he is allowed to escape the Justice he's so actively thwarted and manipulated.  This is about how George W. Bush may have saved the nation, simply by damaging it so badly that he's virtually guaranteed there will never be another Bush Presidency.

McCain/Jeb Bush ticket

Sun Feb 10, 2008 at 06:15:47 PM PDT

I can't be the first to think of this.

Talk about "4 more years"! And another 8 on top of it!

Think about it.  What will it take to make McCain palatable to conservatives?  A Bush in the bush is worth a Republican turnout!

OK, so I'm just dreaming up scarey scenarios.  What are YOUR thoughts about McCain's running mate .... because ....

Romney Morphs into Bush

Sun Jan 27, 2008 at 10:47:27 AM PDT

Last week, I described the perils and pitfalls of Mitt Romney's sales pitch to replace George W. Bush as America's MBA President.  Now, new developments from the campaign trail suggest that the morphing of Mitt Romney into George Bush is well underway.

Does Romney = more Bush and Rove?

Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 02:51:43 PM PDT

Once upon a time, Karl Rove was working in Texas politics, for Bob Clement against Mark White, in the Texas Governor's race.  A bug was found in Rove's office.  The implication was that White's campaign placed, but as the story played out over time, increasingly people came to believe that Rove had bugged his own office.

Please keep that in mind.  And remember, that when Romney went to give his speech on religion, it was at the presidential library of George H. W. Bush.

So, how does all this add up to my title?   Well . . . .

Florida’s Financial Fiasco: Chapter Two

Fri Dec 21, 2007 at 10:26:22 AM PDT

The very top of Florida Politics’ reading recommendations today was this Bloomberg article, or at least its excerpts in the Pensacola blog, wherein "Beach Blogger" concluded of our former governor:

"It’s past time for Mr. Jeb Bush to disclose the details of his contract with Lehman brothers."

For starters, Do I hear any Democrats demanding it?
