Did Bush Lie to Fitz and is Cheney About to Bite It?

Sat Apr 08, 2006 at 02:33:07 PM PDT

A few thoughts about L'Affaire Libby.  Following some of the excellent diaries about this, I got to thinking.  Bear with me as my mind wanders around a bit. Above the fold is the Bush question.  Below the fold is the Cheney question.

Since it's clear Bush lied to the public about the leaking of classified information, would it be unreasonable to assume that he also lied to federal investigators when they interviewed him?  I had to double-check this, but Bush was himself interviewed by Patrick Fitzgerald about the Plame leak in June 2004.  I wonder what was said.  Fitz interviewed Bush for 70 minutes, according to the Washington Post (see  HERE.)  I wonder if Fitz asked him about classified info in general or only about Plame?

Most pundits keep talking about the legality of a President declassifying information on the fly.  The consensus seems to be that it may be unethical, unusual, politically stupid and generally uncool, but not necessarily illegal.  But that's irrelevant to his lying to Fitz or the FBI. Could this turn into a criminal issue after all?

**UPDATED** Ariel Sharon out of Emergency Surgery, back in IC.

Sat Feb 11, 2006 at 01:12:16 AM PDT

old title: Ariel Sharon Near Death - out of Emergency Surgery, back in IC.

CNN International and the AP are reporting that Ariel Sharon is about to undergo emergency surgery to treat bleeding in his abdomen.  They are saying the doctors fear for his life.

In a CT scan of Sharon's stomach Saturday, doctors discovered that his digestive track had been seriously damaged, said Yael Bossem-Levy, spokeswoman for Hadassah Ein-Kerem hospital. In light of the damage, it was decided to immediately operate on Sharon, Bossem-Levy said in a statement.

"Sharon's life is in danger," Bossem-Levy told The Associated Press in a phone call after the statement was issued. His condition is now "very serious, or critical," she said.

The AP has an updating story out there now.  It's HERE.

CNN is speaking with Ron Kumer of Hadassah Hospital.  He's confirming what's in the AP story but added that they did the CT scan because Sharon's condition was worsening.

That's all I've got for now (about 1:10 AM Pacific Time).   Feel free to update in the comments.

(**UPDATED**) Impeach Gonzales... for now.

Thu Feb 09, 2006 at 04:25:20 AM PDT

This might not be worthy of a diary, but I'd like some feedback.

While I like the idea of getting the impeachment of Pee and VeePee to build from the towns and cities up through the state legislatures, I believe there's a pretty compelling case right now for Gonzales.

Below is my letter to my three state legislators (all Dems).

Alito Idea

Mon Jan 16, 2006 at 02:37:03 AM PDT

I have an idea to stop the Alito nomination.  It's risky and difficult to execute but it just might work.

For years, we've been warning people that the Republicans will be killing roe-v-wade first chance they get.  We've screamed it from the mountaintop so much that, for most people, it's been reduced to background noise.  And no, we here are not most people.

See my strategery on the other side.

Krugman strikes again...

Tue Mar 15, 2005 at 04:22:32 AM PDT

Paul Krugman strikes again with what I think is the perfect tone.  He gives Lieberman the smack down and reminds the Democratic party of a missed opportunity with the bancruptcy bill.

Joe Lieberman idea...

How about a multi-pronged approach?

Gannuckert trap?

Sat Feb 26, 2005 at 02:09:46 PM PDT

Okay, I have to get this off my chest so pardon the rant.  One aspect of the whole Gannuckert issue that really worries me is the possibility that it's a trap.     More below...

JGJG alone?

Tue Feb 22, 2005 at 05:25:47 PM PDT

Was Gannuckert alone?

  1. Who else may have tried the same route he did to get into the WH press corps?

  2. Who else may have tried a different route?

  3. Could a military security clearance have been a free pass?
